Product design for mobility and smart city
At Trem, we design and develop products, devices and technological equipment for mobility and connected city environments: access systems, validation systems, passenger information solutions, interactive terminals, urban furniture and integrated solutions for public space. We combine industrial design and technical criteria from the outset to deliver results that not only work: they are intuitive, easy to maintain, manufacturable, and efficiently integrated into their real context of use.

Solutions for complex environments
Designing products for mobility and smart city applications means addressing constraints that go far beyond form. These developments involve technological integration, intensive use, maintenance, deployment in public space, in-service durability, accessibility, regulatory requirements and manufacturing feasibility. We design with all of these factors in mind from the very beginning, so the final result performs not only at a technical level, but also in real use.
Technological integration
We integrate displays, readers, sensors, connectivity, electronics and technical requirements from the design stage to avoid forced solutions or products that are difficult to maintain.
Intensive use and reliability
We design for environments with continuous traffic, repeated interaction and demanding operating conditions, where the product must perform in a clear, stable and consistent way over time.
Visibility and information
In mobility and smart city applications, fast reading, immediate understanding and visual hierarchy are part of how the product works. We design to support smooth interaction even in situations of urgency or high user flow.
Accessibility and ergonomics
We consider heights, reach, posture, user diversity and real conditions of use so that the product is accessible, comfortable and easy to understand.
Outdoor environment and durability
We design for more demanding conditions than those of a controlled environment: weather exposure, dirt, solar radiation, temperature changes, humidity, continuous use and long-term wear.
Deployment and infrastructure
We consider anchoring, service connections, architectural context, people flow and coexistence with existing systems so that deployment is realistic and the product works effectively within its operating environment.
Assembly and maintenance
We facilitate technical access, disassembly, module replacement, servicing operations and system updates, reducing intervention times and operating costs.
Regulations and safety
We incorporate regulatory requirements, safety criteria, accessibility standards and environmental constraints from the beginning to avoid redesigns and streamline deployment.
Manufacturing and rollout
We design with production, modularity, transport, cost and scalability in mind, so that the result is viable both as a prototype and in real deployment.
Areas of application
We design and develop products for mobility and smart city environments where electronics, connectivity, intensive use and deployment in public space all come together. Rather than talking about isolated sectors, we work across product types and use contexts in which technological integration, accessibility, durability, maintenance and manufacturing shape the outcome from the very beginning.
Our experience is particularly well suited to projects where the product must operate in demanding environments, coexist with existing infrastructure, and maintain clear, robust and scalable performance over time.

Our working methodology
Based on more than 25 years of experience, our 5-phase methodology provides a solid foundation for delivering successful projects.
We understand the product, its context of use and its constraints: production volume, target cost, environment, maintenance, technical requirements, applicable regulations and timeline.
We propose design directions and product architecture routes oriented towards manufacturing, integrating components, interaction and formal language in a coherent way.
We define geometries, joints, tolerances, access points, parts, closures and assembly strategy to reduce risk and facilitate production.
We refine the product until everything fits and works as intended: usability, robustness, integration, perceived quality and compatibility with the manufacturing process.
We support manufacturing and oversee the consistency of the final result with the defined quality standard.

From Design to Production
We manage the transition to production taking into account manufacturing, installation, maintenance and deployment context. This allows us to adapt to different project scales:
-
Prototypes
-
Short runs (10–100 units)
-
Mid-volume runs (~1,000 units)
-
High-volume production (~10,000 units)
We design with real feasibility in mind from the start, avoiding concepts that may look appealing but fall short in cost, assembly or maintenance.
Let’s work on your next project
If you are developing an access system, a terminal, a connected device, a passenger information solution or a piece of smart urban equipment, we can help you turn it into a solid, clear, manufacturable product ready for real-world deployment.
